The Executive Director owns circulation and revenue targets for The Wall Street Journal and Barron’s in their print and digital formats. Relevant clients on whom his/her representatives call include travel industry executives; hotel owners and managers; university professors and administrators; and undergraduate and MBA students. Success requires not only experienced, dynamic sales management, but also energetic determination to think and sell differently.
Responsibilities include:
•Meet or exceed circulation, revenue and profitability objectives in the travel/amenity and education segments
•Direct a group of 30 sales professionals, including managers and reps, ensuring that optimal planning, monitoring and motivational activities are in place for maximum effectiveness
•Personally lead selling efforts aimed at the largest national accounts, pioneering unique, lucrative solutions
•Fully understand and report on business results and key drivers, including annual budgeting, regular performance analysis and monthly business forecasting
•Uncover opportunities for radical growth by following industry trends, commissioning research and tracking competitive moves
•In collaboration with various expert colleagues, oversee sales operations including reporting, incentives, training, team meetings, pricing, territory structure, opportunity tracking and contact management
•Collaborate with marketing colleagues to develop strategic plans, productive lead-generating campaigns and compelling sales collateral
Position Requirements
•10+ years in increasingly responsible sales positions required, leading large teams with proven success
•College degree in relevant field required; MBA preferred
•Excellent oral and written communication skills
•Strong analytical background to evaluate results and opportunities
•Background in media/publishing, hotel sales, and/or education sales preferred
•Intermediate skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint required; Salesforce.com experience preferred

We are currently seeking a Circulation Marketing Manager who will improve home delivery subscriber retention and overall profitability. The primary goal is to proactively oversee all subscriber renewal activities, including customer service, for both print and electronic subscribers. Additional responsibilities are to analyze retention by order source and promotions presented through consumer marketing.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Analysis of inbound and outbound customer communication
- Track length of start and reasons for non-starting subscription orders
- Improve retention by tracking, analyzing and executing changes to the subscriber lifecycle
- Manage subscriber communication by mail and phone for subscriber rate changes to achieve a profitable subscriber base.
- Identify and recommend optimal acquisition and renewal strategies for profitability and stability of subscribers
- Continually maintain working knowledge of all company products, services and promotions.
- Utilize operational systems to confirm accuracy of collections and payments and credits.
- Develop weekly subscriber renewal and retention reports to be used for forecasting.

Job Requirements or Qualifications:
- Minimum four year degree
- 5-7 years experience in direct marketing and renewal environment
- Experience and understanding of renewal and subscriber reporting and ability to create spreadsheets that can be turned into reports
- An understanding of the circulation reporting (ABC) and billing systems
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills
- Computing skills: Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, Word

Familiarity with book publishing and publication circulation is essential. Job Summary:
A key quantitative position with responsibility for all circulation analysis and reporting to support the marketing and circulation sales efforts of The Record and Herald News.
Conduct broad based analysis to identify and evaluate financial and marketing risks and opportunities; initiate action and encourage decision-making based on findings and recommendations.
Provide management reporting of key business and financial metrics, including forecasting and trend analysis.
Work with senior management team on circulation audit and all ABC reporting needs. Work closely with the CIS team and Finance liaison to ensure compliance with all NJMG business practices, policies and procedures.
Take lead on retention modeling, customer profiling and segmentation and other forms of advanced analytics.
Qualifications: (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
•5-7 years experience in a business environment (circulation, finance and/or relevant work experience) required.
•Prior newspaper or magazine experience preferred.
•Excellent computer skills including Advanced Microsoft Excel and Access required. Knowledge of SAP, PBS (including Insight), and Business objects preferred.
•Solid understanding of business analytics.
•Methodical problem-solving skills
•Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative management style and ability to deal effectively with all levels of management.

Gannett Co., Inc. Consumer Sales Services West Group seeks a Hub Sales Manager. This position is responsible for creating local sales strategy, campaign production plans, and execution of sales and retention strategies for the Hub newspapers, and other sites as assigned, within the Group Hub structure. This position will investigate, expand and implement standardized sales programs and retention programs (in conjunction with Retention & Engagement Center - REC) to achieve and exceed budgeted circulation levels, daily and Sunday, across multiple units. This position will coordinate customer touch-point processes to extend the customer lifecycle. This position is responsible for communication flow throughout the hub structure, and directly to our vendors, on campaign timelines and results. Reports to the Group Home Delivery Sales Manager.
Using the sales and marketing plan, collaborate with the database manager and graphic designer to create and implement localized sales programs in all circulation areas that will enhance local site objectives as well as support the corporate strategy. Develop standardized approaches across multiple markets that maximize current resources. Monitor home delivery direct response sales and retention budget, including volumes and expenses. Monitor CPO and CPU by sales channel and property to gauge effectiveness of campaigns.
Manage integrated direct response programs including, but not limited to, in-paper ads, direct mail, email, inserts and internet. Project scope includes coordination of creative, printing postage, fulfillment and scheduling. Facilitate timely launch of programs. Oversight of contract fulfillment by outside sales vendors.
Monitor retention programs orchestrated and stops data and execute programs to extend the average life of the subscribers. Ensure continuous use of customer touch-point processes. Manage the subscriber billing process, coordinating the growth of new print and electronic features and customized bill messaging, and working with Accounting and IT to ensure accurate and on time billing.
Communicate programs, results and accomplishments to Group Home Delivery Sales Manager, sales team and local units, enabling proactive implementations. Facilitate communication of promotions to sites and to the COE, auditing GICS applications and work with the Data Control Associate to update and maintain information.
Act as liaison between departments and units to ensure resolution of customer issues, projects come in on plan and deadlines are met.
Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers. Be professional, courteous and timely in every interaction, conveying to all external customers our appreciation for their business.
Responsible for adhering to safety procedures, ensuring a safe work environment and reporting injuries to determine cause and take necessary preventative action.
Requirements
College degree with specialization in marketing and/or communications preferred.
Five years of sales and marketing communications, or relevant business experience required.
Individual must have intermediate level use off Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of presentation software is a plus.
Well-versed in knowledge of sales, methods, channels and analysis.
Excellent customer service skills are essential for this position. To be successful, individual must possess strong project management and problem solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
